Minolta 45mm f/2
For sale is a Minolta MD Rokkor 45mm f/2, one of Minolta’s most loved compact manual-focus lenses from the late Rokkor era.
This is a small, lightweight, everyday prime lens with a very natural 45mm focal length, sitting beautifully between the classic 35mm documentary look and the tighter 50mm standard lens feel. It is slightly wider than a traditional nifty fifty, which makes it incredibly practical for street photography, travel, family photos, portraits, film photography, everyday carry, and adapting to modern mirrorless cameras.
The lens has a bright f/2 maximum aperture, giving good low-light performance, pleasant background separation, and a compact build that makes it easy to leave on a camera all day. It’s one of those lenses that doesn’t look flashy on paper, then quietly becomes the one you actually use the most.
It uses the Minolta SR mount, commonly referred to as MC / MD mount, and is compatible with Minolta manual-focus film bodies such as the X-700, X-500 / X-570, XD series, XE series, XG series, and SRT cameras. It can also be adapted easily to modern mirrorless systems including Sony E, Fujifilm X, Canon RF, Nikon Z, Micro Four Thirds, and L-mount with the correct adapter.
A brilliant little vintage walkaround lens: compact, sharp, simple, charming, and just a little bit cult-following-adjacent.

The Minolta MD Rokkor 45mm f/2 was introduced in the late 1970s as part of Minolta’s MD manual-focus lens lineup. It became known as one of Minolta’s compact “pancake-style” standard lenses, designed to be small, light, affordable, and genuinely useful.
Unlike the more common 50mm lenses, the 45mm focal length gives a slightly wider, more natural field of view. That makes it especially nice for everyday photography, street work, travel, and documentary-style shooting where you want the frame to feel relaxed rather than tight.
It was never Minolta’s most exotic lens, and that’s part of its charm. It was a practical everyday lens made for people actually carrying their cameras around. Over time, it has picked up a bit of a cult following among Minolta shooters and vintage lens users because it is tiny, sharp, easy to adapt, and full of simple photographic usefulness.
It’s not a trophy lens. It’s the lens you throw on the camera before walking out the door.
